At the end of an M generation one final hardcore variant often appears, a closing statement. For the F80 M3 that was the CS, released in 2018 in just 1,200 cars worldwide. The CS label (Club Sport) traditionally sits between Competition Package and CSL, and in this case brought 460 hp from the biturbo S55 (10 hp more than Competition), Adaptive M suspension with CS-specific settings, factory carbon elements (bonnet, roof panel, interior) and M-DCT exclusively as the gearbox. Four paint colours appeared on the books: Lime Rock Grey Metallic, San Marino Blue Metallic, Sapphire Black Metallic and Alpine White. The F80 M3 CS is the most appreciated specification of the entire F80 generation on today's market. No manual variant, for anyone specifically seeking one, the regular F80 M3 or the E46 M3 CSL is the search territory.
The BMW F80 M3 CS was unveiled in 2018 as the closing specification of the F80 generation, shortly before the transition to the G80. Production was limited; BMW M did not publish a specific production figure, but it is estimated that around 1,200 cars were built worldwide. The package includes 460 hp biturbo S55 (a 10 hp increase over Competition Package), Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres, carbon bonnet with air channels for improved cooling, carbon rear diffuser, improved Adaptive M suspension with sharpened settings, and lighter wheels. The paint colours were limited to Lime Rock Grey Metallic and Black Sapphire Metallic. The F80 M3 CS was available with manual six-speed gearbox or M-DCT.
In 2024 BMW M unveiled the G80 M3 CS, the first CS specification of the G80 generation. Production is ongoing; BMW M has not announced a specific production cap but it is positioned as a limited hardcore specification. The package includes 550 hp biturbo S58 (a substantial increase of 30-40 hp over Competition Package), 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive (unlike F80 CS which had rear-wheel drive only), carbon bonnet, carbon roof panels, carbon bucket seats, M-specific aerodynamics, and lighter wheels. The paint colours include Frozen Solid White Metallic, Frozen Tanzanite Blue II Metallic, Sapphire Black, and Brooklyn Grey Metallic. The G80 M3 CS is only available with M Steptronic transmission (no manual option).
The two M3 CS specifications represent an important evolution between the F80 and G80 generations. The F80 M3 CS (2018, 460 hp, rear-wheel drive, biturbo S55) is the closing of the pure rear-wheel-drive M3 tradition. The G80 M3 CS (2024-present, 550 hp, 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive, biturbo S58) is the most modern specification with substantially more power and all-wheel drive as standard. For collectors both CS specifications represent different values: F80 CS for the pure rear-wheel-drive M3 culture, G80 CS for modern BMW M engineering with all-wheel drive. The CS designation (Club Sport) is for BMW M a specific positioning within the M3 lineage. Within the F80 generation the M3 CS sat above the Competition Package but below the most extreme specifications (the F80 generation had no GTS equivalent; the E90 generation did have an M3 GTS in 2010). Within the G80 generation the M3 CS sits above the Competition Package and is the most extreme regular G80 M3 specification to date. For collectors who specifically follow CS specifications, this represents a unique collecting opportunity: one CS per generation (where BMW M introduced a CS) with specific configuration, production numbers, and packages.
The F80 M3 CS has seen a strong valuation curve since its 2018 launch. Well-documented F80 M3 CS examples in original specification with proven service history sit consistently above F80 M3 Competition Package prices, often with Lime Rock Grey or Black Sapphire Metallic in a higher price tier. The G80 M3 CS is too new to fully evaluate value retention, but has consistently traded around or above the original list price since launch due to limited production and 4MATIC+ specification. For sellers this means a well-documented M3 CS with proven service history at BMW M Classic, original original specification, and confirmed BMW Group Classic certification attracts strong international interest.

For M3 CS collectors low mileage (under 30,000 for F80 CS, under 10,000 for G80 CS) in original condition is generally substantially value-driving. Document number of previous owners, any trackday participation, factory build sheet, and complete service history. For F80 CS: proof of manual or M-DCT gearbox; for G80 CS: M Steptronic transmission as standard.
