Nine thousand rpm. The 458 Italia is the last Ferrari V8 Berlinetta without forced induction and revs higher than any other series-production Ferrari V8. The F136 F V8 (4.5 litres, 570 hp) uses direct injection, a four-valve head with variable valve timing, and gets the car to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds. Ferrari offered only the F1-DCT seven-speed dual-clutch, no manual variant. Production ran from 2009 to 2015 in four shapes: Italia Coupé, Spider with retractable hardtop, the hardcore Speciale (2013-2015, around 3,000 cars) introducing Side Slip Control for the first time, and the Speciale Aperta (2014-2015, 499 cars) celebrating Ferrari's 67th year. Early cars were subject to a factory cylinder-head recall in 2011; confirmation that the recall work has been carried out matters to modern buyers.
Ferrari unveiled the 458 Italia in 2009 at the Frankfurt Motor Show as the successor to the F430 (2004-2009). The name Italia honours Italy, Ferrari's home culture (first regular production Ferrari V8 Berlinetta with explicit national name tribute). The Pininfarina design was dramatic evolution of the F430 shaping with more aggressive air intakes, easier design, and F1-inspired rear exhausts. For collectors the 458 Italia represents Ferrari's last regular production naturally aspirated V8 Berlinetta (all newer regular production Ferrari V8 Berlinettas have turbocharging: 488, F8, 296 GTB with PHEV).
The central technical point of the 458 Italia is the naturally aspirated 4.5-litre F136 F V8 - further developed from F136 E in F430 (4.3 litres, 490 hp). The result: 570 hp and 540 Nm of torque, redline 9,000 rpm (highest redline in a regular production Ferrari V8 until then). The F136 F has timing chain, direct injection (Ferrari's first regular production V8 with direct injection), and improved combustion efficiency. For collectors the F136 F in the 458 is Ferrari's last regular production naturally aspirated V8 specification.
The 458 Italia introduces Ferrari's first regular production V8 Berlinetta with F1 DCT (Dual Clutch Transmission) seven-speed gearbox. The system has paddle-shifted gearbox with quick-shifting DCT actuator (shift times less than 80 milliseconds). For collectors this is substantially relevant: the 458 Italia is Ferrari's first regular production V8 Berlinetta without manual specification (F430 was last with manual gearbox standardised). The F1 DCT was standardised in all modern Ferrari V8 Berlinettas (488, F8, 296 GTB).
In 2013 Ferrari unveiled the 458 Speciale - limited hardcore specification of the 458 Italia (around 3,000 cars worldwide). The package includes further developed F136 F V8 at 605 hp (35 hp more), lighter chassis (around 90 kg weight saving), Side Slip Control (SSC, Ferrari's first drift mode that combines electronic limited-slip differential steering, traction control, and E-Diff), CFRP elements, stripped interior, and Italian tricolor livery as option. In 2014 Ferrari unveiled the 458 Speciale Aperta - limited Spider specification of the 458 Speciale (around 499 cars worldwide) to honour Ferrari's 67-year anniversary (1947-2014, with reference to 67 years). For collectors both are substantially scarcer and higher priced than regular 458.
The 458 has seen a substantially strong appreciation curve since 2017 due to position as Ferrari's last regular production naturally aspirated V8 Berlinetta. Well-documented 458 Italia Coupé and Spider examples in original specification sit in a substantially strong segment. 458 Speciale (3,000 cars) and 458 Speciale Aperta (499 cars) are in substantially higher price tiers due to scarcity and hardcore equipment. Tailor Made specifications add substantial value. For sellers this means a well-documented 458 with proven service history at Ferrari Classiche or recognised Ferrari specialist, original original specification, Tailor Made confirmation (where applicable), and Power Warranty transfer attracts strong international interest.
458 Italia Coupé (2009-2015), 458 Spider (2011-2015, open Convertible with retractable hardtop), 458 Speciale (2013-2015, limited hardcore Coupé, around 3,000 cars), or 458 Speciale Aperta (2014-2015, limited hardcore Spider, around 499 cars).
The 458 is available in classic Ferrari colours: Rosso Corsa (signature, around 50% of production), Giallo Modena, Nero Daytona, Argento Nürburgring, Bianco Avus, Blu Tour de France, Grigio Silverstone, Rosso Scuderia (dark red), and Tailor Made specifications. For collectors non-red and Tailor Made specifications are substantially value-adding.
The F136 F V8 (naturally aspirated, 4.5 litres, 570 hp, redline 9,000 rpm) is further developed from F136 E in F430 with increased displacement and improved power. For collectors, F136 F condition, timing chain status, oil consumption status, and known fuel injection points of attention are essential.
The 458 Speciale (2013-2015, around 3,000 cars) is the limited hardcore specification of the 458 Italia. The package includes further developed F136 F V8 at 605 hp (35 hp more), lighter chassis (around 90 kg weight saving), Side Slip Control (SSC, Ferrari's first drift mode), stripped interior, CFRP elements, and Italian tricolor livery (option). For collectors the 458 Speciale is substantially higher priced than regular 458.
The 458 Speciale Aperta (2014-2015, around 499 cars) is the limited Spider specification of the 458 Speciale. The package includes identical F136 F V8 at 605 hp as the 458 Speciale Coupé with removable roof panel. For collectors the 458 Speciale Aperta is the rarest regular production 458 specification and in a substantially higher price tier.
For 458 Tailor Made examples: document order history via Ferrari Maranello, Tailor Made elements (unique paint colour, unique interior specification, unique wheels specific), Tailor Made certification, and documentation. For collectors Tailor Made confirmation is substantially value-adding.
Ferrari Classiche-recognised service is essential. For 458: F136 F V8 service (valve clearance, oil consumption status, fuel injection service, head points of attention), F1 DCT mechatronics service, E-Diff system service, Brembo Carbon Ceramic Brake status, and Power Warranty status.
Note: These factors may influence buyer interest. Value depends on many factors.
458 Italia Coupé (2009-2015), 458 Spider (2011-2015), 458 Speciale (2013-2015, limited), or 458 Speciale Aperta (2014-2015, limited). Model year, chassis number, engine number, and market version. Speciale specifications: confirmation via Ferrari Classiche essential.
For 458 Ferrari Classiche certification is value-adding, particularly for 458 Speciale, Speciale Aperta, Tailor Made specifications, and non-red specifications. Apply via Ferrari Maranello via Ferrari Classiche form.
All invoices from Ferrari Classiche or recognised Ferrari specialist. For 458: F136 F V8 service (valve clearance, oil consumption status, fuel injection service), F1 DCT mechatronics service, E-Diff system service, Brembo Carbon Ceramic Brake status, and Power Warranty status.
The F136 F V8 (4.5 litres, 570 hp, direct injection) has known points of attention: valve clearance adjustment, timing chain status, fuel injection condition, head points of attention (known head problem on early 458s, Ferrari recall), and oil consumption status.
The 458 has F1 DCT seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox and E-Diff electronic limited-slip differential. Document F1 DCT condition (shift times, DCT actuator condition, transmission oil condition, clutch status), E-Diff system service, and diagnostic report.
