The 296 GTS is the open version of the 296 GTB, introduced in 2022 as the successor to the F8 Spider. Beneath the skin sits identically the F163 biturbo V6 PHEV drivetrain producing 830 hp combined. The difference lies in the roof: an electric retractable hardtop (RHT) that opens or closes in fourteen seconds, operable up to a road speed of 45 km/h. The RHT mechanism shares architecture with the 488 Spider and F8 Spider, though Ferrari refined the sealing for the 296. The Spider weighs around 70 kg more than the Coupé due to the RHT system and chassis reinforcement, a weight penalty that effectively vanishes in performance terms (0-100 km/h: 2.9 seconds, identical to the GTB). As on the GTB, Assetto Fiorano is the optional package adding lighter Multimatic dampers, Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tyres and an Italian tricolor livery.
Ferrari unveiled the 296 GTS in April 2022, about a year after the 296 GTB introduction. The 296 GTS is the open Spider variant of the V6 PHEV platform, positioned parallel to the 296 GTB. It is Ferrari's first regular production Spider with V6 engine; preceding Ferrari V6 models (Dino 246 GTS, Dino 308 GT4) were limited or not delivered as regular Spider. The 296 GTS shares the F163 V6 PHEV drivetrain with the 296 GTB and has identical combined power of 830 hp. For collectors the 296 GTS represents the new Ferrari V6 Spider culture.
The central distinguishing feature of the 296 GTS is the electric retractable hardtop (RHT). The system opens or closes in 14 seconds and is operable up to 45 km/h. The RHT system shares architecture with earlier Ferrari Spider models (458 Spider, 488 Spider, F8 Spider) but is refined for the 296 GTS with sharpened sealing and quick opening. In closed configuration the RHT provides Coupé-like stiffness; in open configuration it provides full Convertible experience. For collectors, RHT mechanism service and RHT sealing condition are essential.
The 296 GTS shares the F163 biturbo V6 PHEV drivetrain with the 296 GTB. The F163 V6 (3.0 litres, 663 hp, 120-degree V angle, redline 8,500 rpm) combined with electric motor (167 hp) on the rear axle for combined power of 830 hp and 740 Nm. The PHEV battery (7.45 kWh, lithium-ion) enables eDrive mode: electric zero-emission driving with around 25 km range. For modern Ferrari driving the PHEV architecture represents the transition to electrification.
The 296 GTS weighs around 70 kg more than the 296 GTB due to RHT mechanism and reinforced chassis structure (to maintain open-body torsion stiffness). The acceleration from 0-100 km/h is therefore 0.1 second longer (2.9 seconds for 296 GTS, 2.9 seconds for 296 GTB) and top speed is identical (330 km/h). For collectors and pure grand tourer driving the 296 GTB is generally preferred; for open driving experience the 296 GTS is more attractive.
Since production start in 2022 the 296 GTS has seen a substantially stable initial appreciation curve. Regular 296 GTS specifications are price-stable at the level of Ferrari Maranello price list (around 25,000 euros higher than 296 GTB due to RHT mechanism); Assetto Fiorano specifications are substantially higher priced. Tailor Made specifications are in the highest price tier. For sellers this means a well-documented 296 GTS with proven service history at Ferrari Maranello or recognised specialist, original original specification, RHT functionality documented, Power Warranty transfer, and Tailor Made confirmation (where applicable) attracts strong international interest.
Regular 296 GTS has combined 830 hp. Assetto Fiorano package (option) adds Multimatic shock absorbers, lighter chassis, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tyres, carbon elements, and livery with Italian tricolor. For collectors Assetto Fiorano specification on 296 GTS is substantially value-adding.
The 296 GTS has electric retractable hardtop (RHT) that opens or closes in 14 seconds, operable up to speed of 45 km/h. The RHT system shares architecture with the earlier 488 Spider and F8 Spider. For collectors, RHT functionality, RHT mechanism condition, and RHT sealing condition are essential.
The 296 GTS is available in regular colours (Rosso Corsa, Giallo Modena, Nero Daytona, Argento Nürburgring) and Tailor Made specifications. For collectors Tailor Made specifications are substantially value-adding. For Assetto Fiorano package on 296 GTS the livery (Italian tricolor) is a unique option.
The F163 V6 (biturbo 3.0-litre, 663 hp) is Ferrari's first regular production V6 with 120-degree V angle. For collectors, turbo condition, PHEV battery condition, electric motor condition, eDrive mode functionality, and diagnostic report are essential.
For 296 GTS Tailor Made examples document order history via Ferrari Maranello, Tailor Made elements (unique paint colour, unique interior specification, unique wheels specific), Tailor Made certification, and documentation. For collectors Tailor Made confirmation is substantially value-adding.
Ferrari Maranello-recognised service is essential. For 296 GTS: PHEV battery service, turbo condition of F163 V6, electric motor diagnostics, F1 DCT mechatronics service, Carbon Ceramic Brake status, RHT mechanism service, and Power Warranty status.
For 296 GTS collectors low-to-moderate mileage (under 12,000 for 2022-2023 model year, under 6,000 for 2024-present) with full service history is more attractive. For Assetto Fiorano specifications and Tailor Made specifications low mileage is substantially value-driving.
Note: These factors may influence buyer interest. Value depends on many factors.
296 GTS (2022-present) regular specification or Assetto Fiorano package. Model year, chassis number, engine number, and market version. For collectors Assetto Fiorano confirmation via factory order configuration is essential.
For modern Ferraris Ferrari Maranello-recognised documentation is value-adding. Request Ferrari Classiche certification via Ferrari Maranello or via local Ferrari dealer. Confirms original specification, packages, and Tailor Made specification.
All invoices from Ferrari Maranello or recognised specialist. For 296 GTS: PHEV battery service, turbo condition of F163 V6, electric motor diagnostics, F1 DCT mechatronics service, Carbon Ceramic Brake status, RHT mechanism service, and Power Warranty status.
The 296 GTS has electric retractable hardtop (RHT) that opens or closes in 14 seconds. Document RHT functionality (test opening and closing), sealing condition (no leakage in rain), hardtop appearance condition, and RHT mechanism service. For collectors proof of working RHT is essential.
The 296 GTS has PHEV system (F163 V6 + electric motor + 7.45 kWh battery). Document PHEV battery condition, electric motor status, eDrive mode functionality (around 25 km range), charging system status, and diagnostic report.
Paint colour with Ferrari factory code: regular colours or Tailor Made specification. For Assetto Fiorano on 296 GTS: document livery (Italian tricolor). For Tailor Made: document unique elements with Ferrari certification.
Number of previous owners, mileage, market version, model year (2022-2023 or 2024-present), any Assetto Fiorano specification, Tailor Made specification, Power Warranty transfer, and geographic distribution. For collectors: low mileage is substantially value-driving.
