The 296 GTS is the open version of the 296 GTB, introduced in 2022 as the successor to the F8 Spider. Beneath the skin sits identically the F163 biturbo V6 PHEV drivetrain producing 830 hp combined. The difference lies in the roof: an electric retractable hardtop (RHT) that opens or closes in fourteen seconds, operable up to a road speed of 45 km/h. The RHT mechanism shares architecture with the 488 Spider and F8 Spider, though Ferrari refined the sealing for the 296. The Spider weighs around 70 kg more than the Coupé due to the RHT system and chassis reinforcement, a weight penalty that effectively vanishes in performance terms (0-100 km/h: 2.9 seconds, identical to the GTB). As on the GTB, Assetto Fiorano is the optional package adding lighter Multimatic dampers, Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tyres and an Italian tricolor livery.
Ferrari unveiled the 296 GTS in April 2022, about a year after the 296 GTB introduction. The 296 GTS is the open Spider variant of the V6 PHEV platform, positioned parallel to the 296 GTB. It is Ferrari's first regular production Spider with V6 engine; preceding Ferrari V6 models (Dino 246 GTS, Dino 308 GT4) were limited or not delivered as regular Spider. The PHEV battery (7.45 kWh, lithium-ion) enables eDrive mode: electric zero-emission driving with around 25 km range. For modern Ferrari driving the PHEV architecture represents the transition to electrification.
The 296 GTS weighs around 70 kg more than the 296 GTB due to RHT mechanism and reinforced chassis structure (to maintain open-body torsion stiffness). The acceleration from 0-100 km/h is therefore 0.1 second longer (2.9 seconds for 296 GTS, 2.9 seconds for 296 GTB) and top speed is identical (330 km/h). Since production start in 2022 the 296 GTS has seen a substantially stable initial appreciation curve. Regular 296 GTS specifications are price-stable at the level of Ferrari Maranello price list (around 25,000 euros higher than 296 GTB due to RHT mechanism); Assetto Fiorano specifications are substantially higher priced.
