The Ferrari 250 GT Tour de France was built in 1956-1959 to win the Tour de France Automobile, a ten-day rally through France, nothing to do with the cycling race. Decades later, in 2015, Ferrari borrowed the name for the hardcore version of the F12 Berlinetta. The F12tdf (799 cars between 2015 and 2017) received a further developed F140 FC V12 producing 780 hp and 705 Nm, Passo Corto Virtuale, Ferrari's first rear-wheel steering in a regular V12, and a 110 kg weight saving via carbon-fibre components (bonnet, roof panel, rear diffuser) and a stripped interior. Two TDF-specific colours appeared on the books: Blu Tour de France as the signature choice and Rosso TRS. The Passo Corto Virtuale system that debuted here later became standard on the 812 Superfast, F8 Tributo and SF90 Stradale.
Ferrari unveiled the F12 TDF in October 2015 as a limited hardcore specification of the F12 Berlinetta. The TDF designation refers to Tour de France, a reference to the Ferrari 250 GT Tour de France from the 1950s (built to participate in the Tour de France Auto rally, in which Ferrari had substantial success). The F12 TDF is positioned as a hardcore successor to the 599 GTO (2010) in the Ferrari V12 Berlinetta line. Production was limited to 799 cars worldwide, produced in 2015-2017. For collectors the F12 TDF represents Ferrari's refined hardcore specification within the F12 model line.
The central technical point of the F12 TDF is the naturally aspirated 6.3-litre F140 FC V12, further developed from the F12 Berlinetta specification (730 hp) with increased compression of 13.5:1, refined exhaust specification, increased fuel injection pressure, and TDF-specific software mapping. The result: 780 hp and 705 Nm of torque (50 hp and 5 Nm more than F12 Berlinetta). The redline is 8,900 rpm. For collectors the F140 FC in the F12 TDF is the last power specification of the F140 FC architecture before the transition to F140 GA (812 Superfast).
The F12 TDF introduces Passo Corto Virtuale (Virtual Short Wheelbase) - Ferrari's first rear-wheel steering system in a regular V12 Berlinetta. The system enables virtual shortened wheelbase at low speeds (rear wheels steer opposite to front wheels for improved manoeuvrability in corners and parking) and extended wheelbase at high speeds (rear wheels steer in the same direction as front wheels for improved stability). The system was innovative and has since been standardised in other Ferrari models (812 Superfast, F8 Tributo, SF90 Stradale). For collectors the F12 TDF represents the first Ferrari with Passo Corto Virtuale.
The F12 TDF has weight saving of 110 kilograms compared to the F12 Berlinetta. The weight saving comes from CFRP bonnet (Carbon Fibre Reinforced Polymer), CFRP roof panel, CFRP rear diffuser, CFRP interior panels (door panels, centre tunnel, dashboard elements), stripped interior (no carpet, minimalist sound insulation), Lexan side windows, and lighter wheels. Additionally Brembo Carbon Ceramic Brakes are standard (instead of optional on F12 Berlinetta).
Since the production stop in 2017 the F12 TDF has seen a substantially strong appreciation curve. At launch the F12 TDF cost around 420,000 euros new (allocation price); since 2020 well-documented examples have traded substantially above original new price. The collector class position of the F12 TDF is strengthened by: scarce production (799 cars), F140 FC V12 at 780 hp, Passo Corto Virtuale, weight saving, and position as hardcore F12 specification. For sellers this means a well-documented F12 TDF with proven service history at Ferrari Maranello or recognised specialist, original original specification, Tailor Made confirmation (where applicable), Passo Corto Virtuale diagnostics, and Ferrari Classiche certification attracts strong international interest.
The F12 TDF is limited to exactly 799 cars worldwide, produced in 2015-2017 at the Ferrari Maranello factory. For collectors confirmation of production batch via factory chassis number and Ferrari Classiche certification is essential. Production was exclusive for existing Ferrari customers via invitation-only allocation.
The F12 TDF is available in a broad range of colours: regular colours (Rosso Corsa, Giallo Modena, Nero Daytona, Grigio Silverstone), F12 TDF-specific colours (Blu Tour de France, Rosso TRS), and Tailor Made specifications. For collectors Tailor Made specifications are substantially value-adding; Blu Tour de France is generally the most sought-after signature TDF colour.
The F140 FC V12 in the F12 TDF is further developed from the F12 Berlinetta specification (730 hp) with increased compression, refined exhaust specification, increased fuel injection pressure, and TDF-specific software mapping. For collectors, F140 FC condition, VANOS service, and oil consumption status are essential.
The F12 TDF has Passo Corto Virtuale - Ferrari's first rear-wheel steering system in a regular V12 specification. The system enables virtual shortened wheelbase at low speeds and extended wheelbase at high speeds. For collectors, Passo Corto Virtuale diagnostics and rear-wheel steering condition are essential.
The F12 TDF has weight saving of 110 kilograms compared to the F12 Berlinetta. The weight saving comes from CFRP bonnet, CFRP roof panel, CFRP rear diffuser, CFRP interior panels, and stripped interior. For collectors CFRP elements in factory original condition are essential.
Ferrari Maranello-recognised service is essential. For F12 TDF: F140 FC V12 service, F1 DCT mechatronics service, Passo Corto Virtuale diagnostics, Carbon Ceramic Brake status (standard), and Power Warranty status.
For F12 TDF collectors low mileage (under 15,000 for 2015-2016 model year, under 10,000 for 2017) is substantially value-driving. Number of previous owners (typical ownership chronology is one or two owners), market version, any Tailor Made specification, and geographic distribution are value-adding.
Note: These factors may influence buyer interest. Value depends on many factors.
The F12 TDF chassis number and type plate. Specific production batch (of 799 cars worldwide), model year (2015, 2016, or 2017), market version, and F12 TDF-specific equipment details. Request Ferrari Classiche certification via Ferrari Maranello.
For F12 TDF Ferrari Classiche certification is substantially value-adding. Apply via Ferrari Maranello in Italy via Ferrari Classiche form. Confirms factory chassis number, factory engine number, production date, original original specification, package elements, F12 TDF-specific specification, and Tailor Made specification (where applicable).
All invoices from Ferrari Maranello or recognised specialist. For F12 TDF: F140 FC V12 service (VANOS, oil consumption status, timing chain condition), F1 DCT mechatronics service, Passo Corto Virtuale diagnostics, Carbon Ceramic Brake status (standard), and Power Warranty status.
The F140 FC V12 (naturally aspirated, 780 hp, redline 8,900 rpm) is further developed from F12 Berlinetta. Document VANOS service, oil consumption status, timing chain condition, and individual throttle bodies.
The F12 TDF has Passo Corto Virtuale - Ferrari's first rear-wheel steering system in a V12 Berlinetta. Document Passo Corto Virtuale diagnostics, rear-wheel steering condition (works at low and high speeds), electric actuator condition, and diagnostic report.
