The Ferrari 488 GTB is Ferrari's mid-engine V8 Berlinetta from the mid-2010s, built in 2015-2019 with a production of around 24,000 cars (spread across 488 GTB Coupé, 488 Spider, and 488 Pista limited hardcore specification). The name 488 refers to 488 cc cylinder displacement (488 cc × 8 cylinders = 3.9 litres). It is the successor to the 458 Italia (2009-2015) and predecessor of the F8 Tributo (2019-2022). The package includes biturbo 3.9-litre F154 CB V8 (Ferrari's first regular production V8 Berlinetta with turbocharging since 288 GTO and F40) with 670 hp, F1 seven-speed DCT, exclusively rear-wheel drive, and E-Diff electronic limited-slip differential. For collectors the 488 GTB represents Ferrari's transition from naturally aspirated V8 culture to turbocharged V8 culture in regular production Berlinettas. A Ferrari 488 GTB is not sold to just any buyer; it is passed on to someone who knows the modern Ferrari turbocharged V8 culture.
Ferrari unveiled the 488 GTB in March 2015 at the Geneva Motor Show as the successor to the 458 Italia (2009-2015). The 488 GTB represents Ferrari's first regular production V8 Berlinetta with turbocharging since 288 GTO (1984-1987) and F40 (1987-1992). The transition to turbocharging was driven by European emission standards (downsizing with turbocharging to meet CO2 targets) and improved power-per-litre. The name 488 refers to 488 cc cylinder displacement (488 cc × 8 cylinders = 3.9 litres). For collectors the 488 GTB represents historic turning point: last regular production Ferrari V8 with naturally aspirated specification was the 458 Italia, all newer V8 Berlinettas have turbocharging.
The central technical point of the 488 GTB is the biturbo 3.9-litre F154 CB V8 - further developed from F154 architecture (shared with Maserati and Ferrari California T). The F154 CB is Ferrari-specific further developed for the 488 GTB with increased boost pressure, dual injection (direct + port injection), and Ferrari-specific software mapping. The result: 670 hp and 760 Nm of torque, redline 8,000 rpm (lower than 9,000 rpm in 458 due to turbocharging). For collectors the F154 CB in the 488 is Ferrari's first regular production V8 Berlinetta with turbocharging.
In 2018 Ferrari unveiled the 488 Pista - hardcore specification of the 488 GTB (around 6,500 cars Coupé + smaller Pista Spider). The name Pista is Italian for circuit. The package includes further developed F154 CB V8 at 720 hp (50 hp more), lighter chassis (around 90 kg weight saving via stripped interior, CFRP elements, lighter wheels), Side Slip Control 6.0 (improved), and Pista-specific aerodynamics (Ferrari F1-Carbon Fiber Rear Wing optional). The F154 CB in the 488 Pista is derived from Ferrari's Challenge Evo race specification. For collectors the 488 Pista represents Ferrari's last hardcore V8 Berlinetta (F8 Tributo was regular specification; 296 GTB is V6 PHEV).
The 488 Spider (2015-2019) is the open Convertible specification with electric retractable hardtop (RHT, 14 seconds to open or close). The RHT system was first introduced in Ferrari California and refined for the 488. For collectors the 488 Spider is popular due to open driving experience. Additionally 488 Pista Spider (limited, around 2,500 cars combined with 488 Pista Coupé) is the Spider specification of the 488 Pista.
The 488 has seen a substantially stable appreciation curve since 2020. Well-documented 488 GTB and Spider examples in original specification sit in a strong segment. 488 Pista (6,500 cars) and 488 Pista Spider are in substantially higher price tiers due to scarcity and hardcore equipment. Tailor Made specifications add substantial value. For sellers this means a well-documented 488 with proven service history at Ferrari Maranello or recognised Ferrari specialist, original original specification, Tailor Made confirmation (where applicable), and Power Warranty transfer attracts strong international interest.
488 GTB Coupé (2015-2019), 488 Spider (2015-2019, open Convertible with retractable hardtop), or 488 Pista (2018-2019, limited hardcore Coupé, around 6,500 cars Pista + 488 Pista Spider). For collectors the 488 Pista is scarcer and higher priced.
The 488 is available in regular Ferrari colours: Rosso Corsa, Giallo Modena, Nero Daytona, Argento Nürburgring, Bianco Avus, Blu Pozzi, Grigio Silverstone, and Tailor Made specifications. For 488 Pista: Italian tricolor livery (option) and Tailor Made. For collectors non-red and Tailor Made specifications are substantially value-adding.
The F154 CB V8 (biturbo, 3.9 litres, 670 hp) is Ferrari's first regular production V8 Berlinetta with turbocharging since 288 GTO (1984-1987) and F40 (1987-1992). For collectors, F154 CB condition, turbo condition of both turbos, boost pressure status, and oil consumption status are essential.
The 488 Pista (2018-2019, around 6,500 cars Coupé + Pista Spider) is the hardcore specification with further developed F154 CB V8 at 720 hp (50 hp more), lighter chassis (around 90 kg weight saving), Side Slip Control 6.0 (improved), CFRP elements, and Pista-specific aerodynamics (Ferrari F1-Carbon Fiber Rear Wing optional). For collectors the 488 Pista is substantially higher priced.
For 488 Tailor Made examples: document order history via Ferrari Maranello, Tailor Made elements (unique paint colour, unique interior specification, unique wheels specific), Tailor Made certification, and documentation. For collectors Tailor Made confirmation is substantially value-adding.
Ferrari Maranello-recognised service is essential. For 488: F154 CB V8 service (turbo condition of both turbos, boost pressure status, fuel injection service, valve clearance adjustment), F1 DCT mechatronics service, E-Diff system service, Brembo Carbon Ceramic Brake status, and Power Warranty status.
For 488 collectors low-to-moderate mileage (under 30,000 for regular 488 GTB/Spider, under 15,000 for 488 Pista) with full service history is more attractive. For 488 Pista and Tailor Made specifications low mileage is substantially value-driving.
Note: These factors may influence buyer interest. Value depends on many factors.
488 GTB Coupé (2015-2019), 488 Spider (2015-2019), or 488 Pista (2018-2019, limited, Coupé or Spider). Model year, chassis number, engine number, and market version. For 488 Pista: confirmation via Ferrari Classiche essential.
For 488 Ferrari Classiche certification is value-adding, particularly for 488 Pista, 488 Pista Spider, and Tailor Made specifications. Apply via Ferrari Maranello via Ferrari Classiche form.

The F154 CB V8 has biturbo architecture (first regular production Ferrari V8 Berlinetta with turbocharging since 288 GTO/F40). Document turbo condition of both turbos, boost pressure measurement, fuel injection service (dual injection: direct + port), and diagnostic report.
For 488 Pista: document F154 CB V8 at 720 hp, lighter chassis (around 90 kg weight saving), stripped interior, CFRP elements, Side Slip Control 6.0, and Pista-specific aerodynamics. Ferrari Classiche certification essential.
