For a long time Lamborghini refused to build an SUV. The LM002 (1986-1993), a military-derived off-roader with the Countach V12, was an industrial exception, not a serious production car. Only in 2017 did the decision come for the Urus, and in 2018 production began. Beneath the bonnet sits the biturbo 4.0-litre EA825 V8 from the Audi/Porsche platform (shared with Audi RS Q8 and Porsche Cayenne Turbo), in Lamborghini-specific tuning: 650 hp in the standard Urus, 666 hp in the Urus Performante (2022) and 800 hp combined in the Urus SE (2024, first PHEV specification). All-wheel drive as standard, rear-wheel steering and an eight-speed automatic. The Urus is, by a wide margin, Lamborghini's most commercially successful model: in 2023 it sold almost as much as all V10 and V12 models combined. For collectors the Urus therefore represents Lamborghini's transition from a pure sports car brand to a versatile luxury manufacturer.
The Lamborghini Urus was unveiled in December 2017 and went on sale in early 2018 as Lamborghini's first SUV since the LM002 (1986-1993). The LM002, built on a military platform and with a Countach-derived V12, was a commercial niche product. The Urus by contrast was specifically developed for the growing luxury SUV market: built on the Volkswagen Group's MLB Evo platform (shared with Porsche Cayenne, Bentley Bentayga, Audi Q7, and Q8) with substantial Lamborghini-specific adaptations. The engine was a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 producing 650 hp and 850 Nm of torque, paired with an eight-speed ZF automatic. The Urus immediately became Lamborghini's best-selling model and commercially transformed the company.
In August 2022 Lamborghini unveiled the Urus S as successor to the original model. The Urus S retains the 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8, uprated to 666 hp and with revised engine management for improved response. Simultaneously Lamborghini unveiled the Urus Performante, the hardcore specification: also 666 hp, but with a 47 kg weight saving through more extensive carbon packs (bonnet, rear spoiler, rear wing, side blades), sport tyres, and sharpened chassis. The Performante has a lower ride height and refined aerodynamics. For collectors and enthusiast drivers the Urus Performante is the most sought-after regular Urus specification.
In April 2024 Lamborghini unveiled the Urus SE, the first plug-in hybrid Lamborghini SUV. The Urus SE combines the same 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 (620 hp) with an electric motor (192 hp) for a combined system output of around 800 hp. The car can drive approximately 60 km purely electrically from a 25.9 kWh battery. The SE positions itself as the modern top of the Urus line and as evidence of Lamborghini's transition to electrification. For modern buyers who want Urus performance combined with lower fuel consumption and tax advantages, the Urus SE is the preferred specification.
The Urus has commercially transformed the Lamborghini portfolio. Since its launch in 2018 the Urus has consistently been Lamborghini's best-selling model, with production volumes higher than all other Lamborghini models combined. For Lamborghini the Urus provides the financial foundation for development of the Aventador successor (Revuelto) and future hyper-specifications. For buyers this means the Urus occupies an important position in the luxury SUV segment, between the Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT and the Bentley Bentayga Speed.
The Urus has held a strong commercial position since launch, but the valuation curve is varied. Regular Urus models (original and S) have moderate value retention for the luxury SUV segment; depreciation in the first five years is substantial. The Urus Performante however has strong value retention, particularly in factory Ad Personam colour with carbon packs. The Urus SE is still too new to evaluate value retention, but for modern buyers it is generally attractive. For sellers this means a well-documented Urus with proven Lamborghini service history, original specification, and (for Performante) confirmed original specification attracts strong international interest.
Original Urus (2018-2022, 650 hp), Urus S (2022-present, 666 hp, replacement of the original), Urus Performante (2022-2024, 666 hp, lightweight hardcore specification with aero package and sharpened chassis), and Urus SE (2024-present, plug-in hybrid with around 800 hp combined system output). Each specification has its own buyer pool and price class.
For Urus collectors, factory Ad Personam colours and rare colours such as Arancio Borealis, Verde Mantis, Giallo Auge, Blu Eleos, Grigio Telesto, matte specifications, and contrast stripe combinations strongly drive price. carbon packs exterior and interior, and leather specification with embroidery reinforce value.
Urus service is specialist work due to the 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8, air suspension, all-wheel drive, and rear-wheel steering. Service at a Lamborghini dealer or recognised Lamborghini specialist (or in some cases Porsche/Audi for shared platform components) is essential; major service every two to three years, including head gasket inspection, turbo condition, and air suspension components.
Document panel condition, any stone chips or damage history, condition of wheels (Urus has factory wheels from 21-inch to 23-inch), air suspension status (compressor and air springs must operate without leakage). For Urus Performante: confirmation that all aero elements (rear wing, front spoiler, carbon panels) are original.
The Urus is a luxury SUV; interior condition is for buyers almost as important as mechanical status. Photos of leather condition, dashboard, factory infotainment system, lifestyle options (Bang & Olufsen audio, panoramic sunroof, massage seats, rear-screen entertainment). Original original specification substantially reinforces value.
Recommended for Urus Performante, Urus SE, and factory Ad Personam specifications. Apply via a Lamborghini dealer or Polo Storico in Sant'Agata Bolognese based on the chassis number. Confirms original specification, colour, carbon packs, and all options. Optional for regular Urus and Urus S.
For Urus buyers, moderate-to-low mileage (under 60,000) with full service history is more attractive than very high mileage. For Urus Performante and factory Ad Personam specifications low mileage matters more; for regular Urus and Urus S an average use with proven service is acceptable.
Note: These factors may influence buyer interest. Value depends on many factors.
Original Urus (2018-2022), Urus S (2022-present), Urus Performante (2022-2024), or Urus SE (2024-present). Model year, chassis number, and engine number. Confirm the car is sold in original specification: wheels, factory exterior (no aftermarket body kit), and interior.
All invoices from a Lamborghini dealer or recognised Lamborghini specialist (or in specific cases Porsche/Audi for shared platform components). The 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 requires attentive inspection of turbo condition, head gaskets, and cooling system. Air suspension service is an important point of attention.
Paint colour with factory code, Ad Personam confirmation if applicable, carbon packs exterior and interior, wheels (21-inch to 23-inch), lifestyle options (Bang & Olufsen audio, panoramic sunroof, massage seats). Original Ad Personam order configuration substantially raises value.
The Urus has a complex air suspension system and all-wheel drive with rear-wheel steering. A Urus with proven working air suspension without leakage, no dashboard warning lights, and complete service invoices for air suspension components is a strong selling point for buyers.
Photos of leather condition, dashboard, factory infotainment system, lifestyle options. For Urus buyers interior condition is an important factor, particularly for luxury specifications with Bang & Olufsen audio, panoramic sunroof, and massage seats.
Photos of bonnet (carbon), rear spoiler, rear wing, side blades, and sharpened chassis. Confirm all aero elements are original. For collectors, proof of Performante package is essential.
Number of previous owners, mileage, use pattern (family, business, off-road, personal). For collector-oriented sales of Urus Performante and factory Ad Personam specifications low mileage is value-driving; for regular Urus and Urus S an average use with full service history is acceptable.
