In July 2018 the Aventador SVJ Prototype set a lap record on the Nürburgring Nordschleife: 6:44.97. At the time it was the fastest lap ever by a production car, faster than the Porsche 911 GT2 RS and Lamborghini's own Huracán Performante. Four months later Lamborghini unveiled the production SVJ as successor to the SV. Production: 900 Coupé + 800 Roadster between 2018 and 2019. Package: 770 hp from the same 6.5-litre V12 (20 hp more than SV), ALA 2.0 with sharpened aerodynamics that raised downforce by 40% over the SV, and carbon-fibre elements where the SV still used aluminium. The abbreviation SVJ stands for SuperVeloce Jota, a reference to the 1972 Lamborghini Miura SVJ built as a road-race prototype. For collectors the SVJ marks the end of the Aventador generation; the Ultimae (2021-2022) followed as the closing specification.
The Lamborghini Aventador SVJ was unveiled in July 2018 at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. The Jota addition in the name refers to Bob Wallace's test car from 1971 (the Miura Jota) and has since been reserved for the most extreme Lamborghini specifications. The SVJ marked Lamborghini's return to the Jota segment after almost fifty years of absence, with substantial technical updates over the Aventador SV. Production was strictly limited to 900 coupé examples and 800 Roadster examples. A further SVJ 63 special edition was released (63 cars, named after Lamborghini's founding year 1963) with specific factory Ad Personam configuration.
Immediately after launch the Aventador SVJ set a Nürburgring production-car record: 6:44.97 around the Nordschleife. This was the fastest time ever recorded by a production car at that point and beat the Porsche 911 GT2 RS record (6:47.3) by more than two seconds. The record was later beaten by the Mercedes-AMG One in 2024 and other hypercars, but for the Aventador SVJ the Nürburgring result remains a historical marker and an important selling context.
The SVJ retained the 6.5-litre naturally aspirated L539 V12 but with further sharpened internal components, uprated intake and exhaust, and engine management updates. Power rose to 770 hp at 8,500 rpm, a 20 hp increase over the SV. The key technical feature however was Aerodinamica Lamborghini Attiva 2.0 (ALA 2.0): an active aerodynamics system that electronically manages airflow around the front spoiler and rear wing. The system switches within 500 milliseconds between downforce mode (for track performance) and drag-reduction mode (for top speed), and can even apply aero-vectoring (different loading on the left and right for cornering). The chassis engineering was further refined with sharpened LDVA settings and four-wheel steering.
In 2019 Lamborghini introduced the Aventador SVJ Roadster, limited to 800 cars. The car retained the 770 hp V12, ALA 2.0, and all carbon packs of the coupé, with removable carbon roof panels that could be stored in the front luggage compartment. The SVJ 63 (63 cars, named after Lamborghini's founding year 1963) was a specific factory Ad Personam configuration of the SVJ coupé, with exclusive colour combination, more extensive carbon packs, and build plate with '63' identification. For collectors the SVJ 63 in original specification is generally the most expensive regular Aventador model.
The Aventador SVJ has seen a strong and consistently rising valuation curve since launch. In 2025 the market for a well-documented SVJ coupé in original specification sits substantially above the original list price, with SVJ Roadsters and SVJ 63 in their own high tier. For sellers this means a well-documented Aventador SVJ with proven Lamborghini service history, original specification, complete documentation, and confirmed Polo Storico Certificate of Authenticity attracts strong international interest. The buyer you want is a Lamborghini collector who values the naturally aspirated V12 Jota culture and knows the specific SVJ specification.
