The Porsche Taycan is Porsche's first series-production electric sports car. Unveiled in 2019, the Taycan was an important step for Porsche: a direct technical statement of the company in the electric era, with 800V architecture (the first in a series-production car), very fast charging capability, and performance levels comparable to petrol sports cars. Through the Taycan, Taycan 4S, Turbo, and Turbo S specifications, alongside Sport Turismo and Cross Turismo variants and the extreme Turbo GT (2024) with 1,019 hp, Porsche has demonstrated that an electric sports car is not only possible but can reach performance levels that compete with traditional sports cars. A Taycan is not sold to just any buyer; it is passed on to someone who knows the electric sports car culture and values the combination of Porsche driving dynamics with EV technology.
The Porsche Taycan was unveiled in September 2019 as Porsche's first series-production electric sports car. The car emerged from a multi-year development process that began with the Mission E concept in 2015. The Taycan introduced 800V architecture (the first in a series-production car), enabling very fast charging: 5 to 80 percent battery charging in around 23 minutes on a 270 kW DC charger. The Taycan's design respected Porsche's formal language: low and wide silhouette, a classic 911-inspired flyline, and fully integrated aerodynamics. For many the Taycan marks the most credible proof that an EV can translate Porsche driving dynamics.
The Taycan went on sale in four regular specifications. The Taycan 4S (390 hp) is the entry specification with permanent all-wheel drive. The Taycan Turbo (625 hp) brought substantially raised performance with the same 800V architecture. The Taycan Turbo S (761 hp) is the most powerful regular Taycan with a 0-100 km/h sprint of 2.8 seconds. From 2022 the Taycan GTS (516 hp) was also added, positioned between 4S and Turbo. For collector-oriented sales the Turbo S in factory PTS colour and factory-installed Performance Battery Plus is the most sought-after regular Taycan specification.
In 2021 Porsche introduced two non-standard body specifications. The Taycan Sport Turismo (estate variant with the same sedan wheelbase) offered more luggage volume and a unique positioning in the electric sports car segment. The Cross Turismo (off-road-inspired specification with raised wheel arches, all-road styling, and optional off-road packages) was even more uniquely positioned: an electric four-wheel-drive sports car with off-road character. For collector-oriented sales the Cross Turismo is generally scarcer than the standard sedan and can command a substantial premium.
In March 2024 Porsche unveiled the Taycan Turbo GT, the most extreme specification in the line. The car produces 1,019 hp combined system output and, with the Weissach package specification, was the first electric car to hold the Nürburgring record for EVs (7:07.55 in 2024). The Weissach package saves 70 kg through carbon wheels, exterior carbon packs, stripped interior elements, and factory-installed graphic stripe. For collectors the Turbo GT with Weissach in factory PTS colour is the most sought-after Taycan specification ever built; production is limited and prices reflect this.
The Taycan represents a unique market position as an electric sport sedan. Regular 4S and Turbo specifications have moderate value retention for an EV segment that is generally not strongly value-stable. For the Taycan Turbo S, GTS in factory PTS colour, Sport Turismo, and Cross Turismo specifications value retention is considerably stronger. The Turbo GT (particularly with Weissach package) has traded consistently above original list since its introduction. For sellers this means a well-documented Taycan with proven Porsche service history, healthy battery status, and original specification attracts strong international interest. The buyer you want is a Porsche enthusiast who knows the electric sports car culture and values the specific Taycan specification.
Taycan (rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive), Taycan 4S, Taycan GTS, Taycan Turbo, Taycan Turbo S, or Taycan Turbo GT (2024, 1,019 hp). The Turbo S produces 761 hp; the Turbo GT with Weissach package is among the most extreme electric sports cars ever built. For collectors the Turbo GT in factory PTS colour is the most sought-after Taycan specification.
Standard sedan, Sport Turismo (estate), or Cross Turismo (off-road-inspired specification with raised wheel arches and all-road styling). The Cross Turismo is relatively scarce for collector-oriented sales. Sport Turismo and Cross Turismo entered production from 2021.
For modern EVs battery condition is the most critical factor for long-term ownership. Document battery condition report from Porsche, factory software update status, any battery replacement documentation, and Porsche battery warranty if active. The Taycan has an 8-year factory battery warranty.
For Taycan collectors, factory PTS (Paint to Sample) colours, rare factory-ordered combinations (Frozen Berry Metallic, Gentian Blue Metallic), factory-installed packages (Sport Chrono, panoramic glass roof, factory-installed wheels, Performance Battery Plus) strongly drive price.
EV service is technically different from petrol cars, focused on cooling system, battery thermal management, electric brake regeneration, and software updates. Service at a Porsche dealer with EV certification is essential; general-garage invoices carry even less weight for EVs than for petrol cars.
For modern EVs mileage is relevant but less critical than for petrol cars. What matters more: number of previous owners, factory software update status (all factory recalls completed), battery condition, and any damage history. A Taycan with proven correct use (no extreme fast-charging abuse) is strongly preferred.
Note: These factors may influence buyer interest. Value depends on many factors.
Taycan, 4S, GTS, Turbo, Turbo S, or Turbo GT. Body variant: standard sedan, Sport Turismo, or Cross Turismo. Model year and factory-installed packages (Performance Battery Plus, Sport Chrono, Weissach for Turbo GT, panoramic glass roof).
Battery condition report from Porsche with capacity measurement, factory software update status, factory recalls completed, Porsche battery warranty if active (8-year factory warranty). For long-term ownership this is the most critical point; document everything that is provably healthy.
All invoices from a Porsche dealer with EV certification. Not all Porsche dealers have full Taycan service certification. General-garage invoices carry even less weight for EVs than for petrol cars; specialist knowledge is essential.
Paint colour with factory code, Paint-to-Sample confirmation if applicable, factory-installed packages, factory-installed wheels, panoramic glass roof, leather specification. For rare factory PTS colours, documentation via Porsche Classic Certificate of Authenticity is strongly recommended.
Photos of panel condition, any damage history, carbon panel condition (Weissach package), bodywork repairs if any. For modern EVs panel condition is an important factor for sale price.
Number of previous owners, mileage, use pattern (business, personal, charging pattern). For collector-oriented sales, proof of correct use (no extreme fast-charging abuse, no extreme performance use) is highly valued. Document charging history if available.
For Turbo GT with Weissach package: photos of carbon wheels, exterior carbon packs, stripped interior elements, factory-installed graphic stripe. Confirmation via factory documentation or Porsche Classic Certificate of Authenticity is strongly recommended for top valuation.
