For more than a century, Maserati has combined Italian temperament with grand touring excellence. It is a brand born on the racetrack and made famous on the boulevards, from the legendary 250F Formula 1 car to the refined Quattroporte that defined the sporting luxury sedan. With designs by Pininfarina and Giugiaro, engines rooted in Ferrari heritage, and a driving experience that is always dramatically Italian: Maserati owners possess a car with a story few brands can match. That deserves a selling experience with the same character.

The mid-engined Maseratis of the 1970s are among the most underrated Italian sports cars. The Bora, with its Giugiaro-designed body and powerful V8, offers a driving experience that rivals the Ferrari 365 GT4 BB, but at a fraction of the price. The Merak, with its lighter V6, is an elegant alternative choice. And the Khamsin, the last front-engined GT of the classic era, is increasingly appreciated by connoisseurs.
These cars deserve a platform where buyers recognise the rarity and character. On a standard classifieds site, they are overshadowed by better-known brands. The auction format brings together the right collectors who understand what a well-maintained classic Maserati is worth.
With the 3200 GT, a new chapter began for Maserati. The Giugiaro lines, the distinctive boomerang tail light, and the biturbo V8 made it an instant classic. The GranTurismo and GranCabrio that followed, with their Ferrari-derived 4.2 and 4.7 V8 engines, are considered by many enthusiasts to be the most beautiful GT cars of their generation. The MC Stradale version, with its lighter weight and circuit-focused setup, is particularly sought after.
The Quattroporte (notably the fifth generation with Ferrari V8 and the sixth generation with 3.8 V8) appeals to buyers who want a four-door car that drives like a sports car. At Octane, we highlight precisely those qualities, so buyers understand the difference between a standard version and a specially configured example.
With the MC20, Maserati returned to its sporting roots. The Nettuno V6, an entirely in-house development, delivers over 600 hp and proves that Maserati can deliver top-class performance without Ferrari engines. The MC20 is a rare sight on the market and attracts buyers seeking a supercar with a unique Italian alternative to the better-known names.
The auction format is ideally suited for this kind of special model. Limited production numbers and growing recognition as a future classic make the MC20 ideal for competitive bidding.
Maserati engines require careful and timely maintenance. On the popular Ferrari-derived F136 V8 (used in the GranTurismo, GranCabrio, and Quattroporte V), the timing chain and cam variator are well-known attention points. Preventive replacement of chain tensioners and variator is a major plus when selling. Buyers expect evidence of regular oil changes with the correct lubricant and documentation of every service visit.
On older biturbo models (3200 GT, early Quattroporte), the condition of the turbos, intercoolers, and cooling system is essential. The biturbo engines from the 1980s and 1990s had a reputation for being maintenance-sensitive, but a well-maintained example is reliable and extraordinarily enjoyable.
On older Maseratis, rust is a serious concern, particularly on models from the biturbo era (222, 228, Shamal). Buyers inspect sills, wheel arches, boot, and floor pan. On the GranTurismo generation, rust is less of an issue, but stone chips and paint damage due to thin Italian panel work do occur.
Specification makes a significant difference with Maserati. A GranTurismo MC Stradale is considerably more valuable than a standard GranTurismo. With the Quattroporte, the GTS version with higher engine specification is highly valued. Rare colours, the Sport GT package, and Alcantara interior are options buyers actively seek. Full documentation of the original specification is therefore essential.
Every car gets a tailored campaign: positioning, spec highlights, and distribution to enthusiasts and collectors across Europe.
