For the E34 M5 Touring CS, BMW M built a handful of Sedans with sportier character in 1995, but without official CS labelling. Only in 2021 did an M5 receive its first true CS specification. The F90 M5 CS (2021-2022, around 1,500 cars worldwide) is, at 635 hp, the most power-oriented regular BMW M ever built: 35 hp more than the M5 Competition, 70 kg saved via carbon-fibre parts, M Carbon Ceramic Brakes as standard, and two individual M Carbon bucket seats behind the front rather than a continuous bench. Three Frozen colours appeared in the catalogue: Frozen Brands Hatch Grey Metallic, Frozen Deep Green Metallic (the scarcest, around 25%) and Frozen Silverstone Metallic. M xDrive all-wheel drive is standard, with a special 2WD mode that diverts drive to the rear wheels only, for the moments when an M5 has to be an M5.
BMW M unveiled the F90 M5 CS in January 2021 as a limited top specification of the F90 M5 model line. It is the first M5 with the CS label (CS stands for Club Sport) since the E34 M5 Touring CS (very brief production end in 1995, not officially sold as CS specification). For BMW M purists the M5 CS marks the first regular CS specification of the M5 line. The CS label is positioned above the regular Competition Package and represents weight-saving-oriented specifications with extra power and sportier chassis settings. The M5 CS is the most power-oriented regular BMW M ever with 635 hp; only the M5 Touring CS in special projects status surpassed that power.
The central technical point of the M5 CS is the biturbo 4.4-litre S63 V8 at 635 hp. The S63 is shared with the F90 M5 (600 hp in Competition Package), F92 M8, and X5 M/X6 M, but further developed for the CS with increased boost pressure and CS-specific software mapping. Torque is 750 Nm, equal to the M5 Competition but with broader torque band. The acceleration from 0-100 km/h is 3.0 seconds (0.3 seconds faster than M5 Competition); the top speed is limited to 305 km/h via M Driver's Package. The exhaust has M Sport exhaust with valve control and CS-specific sound mapping.
The M5 CS has M xDrive all-wheel drive (first in M5 history, introduced with the F90 M5 in 2017). The system has three modes: 4WD (default, best traction), 4WD Sport (more torque to the rear for sportier character), and 2WD (exclusively rear-wheel drive with M mode, only with DSC disengaged). For BMW M purists who value the classic rear-wheel-drive M5 culture, 2WD mode offers the ability to drift like classic E39 M5 specifications.
The M5 CS has weight saving of around 70 kilograms compared to the F90 M5 Competition. The weight saving comes from: carbon bonnet with Power-dome and central air slot, carbon roof panel, carbon interior panels (door panels, centre tunnel), carbon mirror caps, carbon front splitter and carbon rear diffuser, front M Carbon bucket seats (shared with M4 CS / M2 CS), and unique M Carbon rear bucket seats (two individual bucket seats instead of rear bench, with CS-specific centre tunnel storage). M Carbon-ceramic brakes are standard (not an option). M Light Alloy wheels are CS-specific with gold detail.
Since the production stop in 2022 the M5 CS has seen a substantially strong initial appreciation curve. At launch the M5 CS cost around 200,000 euros new; since 2023 well-documented examples have traded consistently above original new price, with Frozen Deep Green examples in the highest price tier. The collector class position of the M5 CS is strengthened by: scarce production (1,500 cars worldwide), 635 hp (most power-oriented regular BMW M ever), M xDrive with 2WD mode, and first M5 with CS label. For sellers this means a well-documented M5 CS with proven service history at BMW M Classic or recognised M specialist, original original specification, and BMW Group Classic certification attracts strong international interest.
The F90 M5 CS was built in 2021-2022 with a production of around 1,500 cars worldwide. For collectors confirmation of model year, market version (Europe, US, Asian markets), and production batch via factory chassis number is essential. Request BMW Group Classic certification in Munich.
The M5 CS is available in three Frozen colours: Frozen Brands Hatch Grey Metallic (the signature CS colour with matte effect), Frozen Deep Green Metallic, and Frozen Silverstone Metallic. All three have gold BMW M badges (instead of the regular black-red-blue scheme). For collectors Frozen Deep Green is generally the most sought-after specification due to scarcity.
The M5 CS has biturbo 4.4-litre S63 V8 (shared with M5, M5 Competition, M8, and X5 M/X6 M) with 635 hp and 750 Nm. For collectors, turbo condition, head gasket status, M Steptronic mechatronics service, and diagnostic report are essential. Document S63 condition via BMW M Classic or recognised M specialist.
The M5 CS has M xDrive all-wheel drive (shared with F90 M5 and M5 Competition). The system has three modes: 4WD (default), 4WD Sport (with more torque to the rear), and 2WD (exclusively rear-wheel drive with M mode). For collectors proof of M xDrive condition and diagnostic report is essential.
The M5 CS has carbon bonnet (with Power-dome and central air slot), carbon roof panel, carbon interior panels, carbon mirror caps, carbon front splitter, and carbon rear diffuser. For collectors carbon elements in factory original condition (no bubbles, no cracks) are strongly value-driving.
The M5 CS has M Carbon bucket seats (shared with M4 CS, M2 CS) with carbon shell, Merino leather with Silverstone red contrast stitching, and Alcantara elements. Additionally M Carbon rear bucket seats (unique to M5 CS, two individual bucket seats instead of rear bench). For collectors factory original bucket seats in original specification are essential.
For M5 CS collectors low mileage (under 15,000 for 2021 model year, under 10,000 for 2022 model year) is substantially value-driving. Full service history at BMW M Classic or recognised M specialist with invoices, S63 V8 service, M Steptronic mechatronics service, M Carbon-ceramic brakes status (standard), and M xDrive diagnostics.
Note: These factors may influence buyer interest. Value depends on many factors.
The M5 CS chassis number and type plate. Specific production batch (of 1,500 cars worldwide), model year (2021 or 2022), market version (Europe, US, Asian markets), and CS-specific equipment details. Request BMW Group Classic certification in Munich.
For M5 CS BMW Group Classic certification is substantially value-adding. Apply via BMW Group Classic in Munich via form. Confirms factory chassis number, factory engine number, production date, original original specification, package elements, and Frozen paint colour.
All invoices from BMW M Classic or recognised M specialist. For M5 CS biturbo S63: turbo condition, head gasket status, M Steptronic mechatronics service, M Carbon-ceramic brakes status (standard), and M xDrive diagnostics.
The S63 V8 has strong character but known points of attention: turbo condition, head gasket status, VANOS service, and M Steptronic mechatronics. Document diagnostic report from BMW M Classic or recognised M specialist. For collectors S63 condition is substantially value-driving.
The M5 CS has carbon bonnet, carbon roof panel, carbon interior panels, carbon mirror caps, carbon front splitter, and carbon rear diffuser. Document carbon condition (no bubbles, no cracks) with chronological photos. For collectors factory original carbon elements are essential.
The M5 CS has front M Carbon bucket seats (shared with M4 CS / M2 CS) and unique M Carbon rear bucket seats (two individual bucket seats instead of rear bench). Document Merino leather condition, Silverstone red contrast stitching condition, and Alcantara condition. For collectors factory original bucket seats in good condition are essential.
Number of previous owners, mileage, market version, model year (2021 or 2022), any trackday participation, and geographic distribution. For collectors: low mileage (under 15,000 for 2021, under 10,000 for 2022) and proven service is substantially value-driving.
