Lexus has held a striking dual position since 1989: a Japanese luxury brand that turned the global luxury saloon market on its head with the LS400, and at the same time a manufacturer of some of the most characterful modern sports cars. The LFA, built in Motomachi with a Yamaha-developed V10, is one of the most respected supercars of the last decade. The LC500, with its naturally aspirated 5.0-litre V8, is a GT of a kind rarely made today. And the IS-F and GS-F brought V8 performance to Japanese saloons in a way that made BMW and Mercedes-AMG take notice. Owners of a sporting Lexus know that unique position. A Lexus is not sold to a random buyer; it is passed on to someone who values the balance between Japanese refinement and motorsport ambition.

The Lexus LFA (2010-2012, only 500 built) stands in a class of its own. Ten years of development, a carbon-fibre chassis for 65 percent of the structure, and a 4.8-litre V10 developed by Yamaha together with Lexus with a 9000-rpm redline. The V10 sound is considered by many to be one of the finest engine notes ever made. The Nürburgring Package (50 of the 500) adds factory aerodynamic upgrades, lower suspension, and the optional Performance Package modifications. An LFA is not a regular supercar; it is a Japanese engineering masterpiece that rarely comes to market.
For LFA sellers, Octane is essential. These cars need international buyer reach, and the LFA owner community is small and specialised. An LFA with proven low mileage, complete Lexus service history, factory Performance Package, and possibly Nürburgring Package specification can fetch multi-million figures. Documentation is everything.
The Lexus LC500 (from 2017) is a grand tourer in the most classical sense: a 5.0-litre naturally aspirated V8 (2UR-GSE) with 478 hp, a 10-speed automatic, and a body Pininfarina could not have drawn more elegantly. The LC500h hybrid version offers a unique experience with multi-stage hybrid drive. The limited LC500 Inspiration Series specifications (different colour themes per model year) and the LC500 Convertible (from 2021) have their own collector markets.
For LC500 sellers, documentation of originality is crucial: factory colour code (Naples Yellow, Atomic Silver, Cadmium Orange, Structural Blue), original wheels (forged 20-inch BBS RS-D), factory-installed accessories, and complete Lexus service history. An LC500 with proven low mileage and original specification is a strong listing for modern GT collectors.
The IS-F (2007-2014), with the 5.0-litre 2UR-GSE V8 (later shared with LC500), brought Lexus' F-performance label to life. The car was compared to the BMW M3 and Mercedes-AMG C63 and held its own. The GS-F (2015-2020) brought the same V8 to a larger saloon. The RC F (from 2014, with Track Edition from 2019) brought F-performance to a coupé. And the older SC430 (2001-2010), with the 1UZ-FE and 3UZ-FE V8 and factory-installed folding hardtop, represents the first Lexus generation that played with emotion.
For F-model sellers, originality, low mileage, and factory-installed Performance Pack or Track Edition modifications matter most. An IS-F in original colour code (Ultra White, Black, Starfire Pearl) with factory BBS wheels and unmodified interior has a strong modern classic market. The RC F Track Edition (only 50 to Europe) is one of the most collectable modern Lexuses.
For sporting Lexus models, service history is the most central value factor. Lexus has an excellent reputation for service quality, and buyers expect a complete file of Lexus dealer servicing (or recognised specialists for LFA, especially Lexus Motomachi-trained technicians). For LFA, service via Lexus is essential, particularly for the V10 engine and the ASG sequential gearbox system. Mileage matters more for Lexus than for some other brands; a sporting Lexus with low mileage and complete service has a significant premium over a high-mileage example.
For modern Lexus models, originality is an important price factor. On LFA, the factory Performance Package (carbon ceramic brakes, lower suspension, different exhaust), Nürburgring Package (wing, splitter, aero kit), and the very rare Bespoke colours (there were 30 standard colours and the option of factory bespoke) all matter. On LC500, Inspiration Series specifications and factory-installed leather packages (Mauve, Caramel, Black) matter. On IS-F and RC F, factory Sun Tan leather, original BBS wheels, and Mark Levinson audio pack are price drivers.
Lexus supplies factory documentation on request via the Lexus Heritage Collection and Lexus dealer services. For LFA, a 'Birth Certificate' is part of the original delivery pack; verify this document is complete. For F models, Lexus can provide Vehicle History reports based on the VIN. For collectors this documentation is decisive. An LFA without complete Birth Certificate and service history is a red flag for collectors.
